Edify is my calling. What is a calling you ask? To me, a calling is a purpose directed by the Holy Spirit to advance the kingdom of God. It sounds very religious and spiritual and only a person completely grounded in God can do it, but that is not so. I find that a calling is not about being religious, but its a path God has for your life. This path draws from your greatest strengths and can give you a life of true happiness. As I began struggling with mental health issues, I realized the life I hoped to have would never come to pass. The career of becoming a teacher or even working in an office was no longer possible. I searched for support and found it scarce. No one understood what I was going through. No one knew how to help me. I felt blame and shame at every turn. All I needed was to be loved and supported. As I searched for help, I found it in the most unexpected places, it gave me the confidence and strength to find my footing once more. I began filling my days with new coping skills and doing stuff I never tried, like drawing and painting. I tried my hand at re-purposing and restoring discarded items, which gave me a sense of fulfillment I had never known. Then one day I went to a craft market with my stuff and my new journey began. I found there are others out there who struggle too, filling their spare time making beautiful things to cope. We never know what life holds for us. Most of us find our lives don’t turn out as we planned. What I do know is that I never want anyone to feel they have no support. I want to Edify. To give support just as I was given. To build up and give purpose with love. Purpose to make beautiful things, and share them with others and build relationships in the process. To give others who need a purpose a safe place to try something new. So, I named my hobby craft store Edify. A double meaning with a whole lot of love.

“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11
