Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
I just got back from a week of Bible Camp. To say I am exhausted is an understatement. The week was full of high emotions both healthy and unhealthy. To say Satan tried his best to put a kink in our week of learning and growing in the Lord would be an understatement. He tried to cut the week up and spit it out at us. But God; That’s right, God showed up like he always does and showed His amazing love and glory to us. One of those amazing times for me was singing and worship time. I has the great privilege to lead our singspiration time this week, and oh what blessing flowed from it. Not only did we raise our voices in song to the Lord, but we learned why we do so. I am still so amazed by what God revealed to us, that I just have to share it with you!
Why we sing can be found in the psalms, but psalms 100 really shows it all.
- To enter His presence with Singing. Not just to enter His presence, but to invite Him also. Our relationship with the Lord is a choice. When we enter into a church building, we expect the presence of the Lord to be there. But with singing we are openly showing that we want and need the Lord to be there. With the presence of the Lord there, Satan will flee! No matter where we are, just raising our voice in song to the Lord, is asking God to enter, and Satan to leave. Satan wants us to be sad, angry, and not in a good head space. Singing can take us from the dark and lead us into the light.
- Know ye that the Lord he is God. When we sing, we are acknowledging who we believe and put our trust in. An outward profession, a bold stance on who are king and Savior is!
- Enter into his gates with thanksgiving. As we enter into the presence of the Lord, we want to thank him for all that He has done for us. Being humble and thanking the Lord for all that he has done for us, opens up our hearts to true gratitude. In return gratitude can put us into a state of mind that is uplifting, supportive, and encourages growth in ourselves and others.
- And, into his courts with praise. Praise is acknowledging all the Lord has done for you in action form. Answered prayers, healing, growth, knowledge, strength, wisdom, peace, love, patience, etc. The list goes on and on. When we ask the Lord in prayer, and He delievers on that prayer, what better way than to lift up our voices unto the Lord and acknowledge it with praise.
- For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Lastly, we raise up our voice to acknowledge the character of God. This is called worship. To worship all Gods qualities, all his power, all his mercy. As we sing of all his wonderous traits, it does something inside of us. We become more confident in who he is, we are more likely to trust in Him when times are tough. We truly believe in who God is and binding it on the table of our heart.
Singing is not just for the young, or old. Its is for everyone! It not about tradition, but about the words and the motif behind it. Next time you lift up your voice unto the Lord, see if you can find one of these 5 messages in the song. Before you know it, you will have a list of songs to turn to in certain times of need in your life. Today, I am going to start my day off with telling the Devil to flee and who is truly the King of My Heart! What will you choose?
